Ch Valdawn Shaizach Sovereign
Am/Jpn Ch. Star Bell JP Boyd X Valdawn's Morning Star

Ricky came to Shaizach Shelties through one of my favorite sheltie couples, Kay and Herb Searle of Valdawn Shelties. Kay was quite ill while raising Ricky's litter and was very anxious to see all 8 (yes, 8!!) puppies go to great homes. One of Ricky's littermates, Ch. Valdawn It's In the Stars, went to Kay's dearest friend, Barbara Kenealy of Rockwood Shelties. The rest went to various breeders or pet homes. There were two left by the time I saw the litter at 8 weeks old, a tiny bitch pup and a male. I took them both and eventually sold the bitch to a pet home.
Ricky went through some very gawky puppy uglies but something told me to hang on to him. He quickly got through the uglies and developed into a very nice moderate dog. This young dog with lots of bone, a rich red colored abundant coat of correct texture, beautiful dark eyes and pigment, full muzzle and natural ears was noticed at specialties in the area. I knew this dog was turning out to be something special.
As a puppy, Ricky acquired a Best in Sweepstakes and two specialty major reserves under well respected breeder judges. On the way to his championship, Ricky went on to receive a specialty major and two more specialty reserves. He placed second at the ASSA 2003 national specialty from the very large American Bred Class, and received an Award of Merit at the 2006 ASSA national.
Sadly, Kay did not live to see Ricky become a champion or his siring ability. She died just shortly after Ricky came to live with me. I will always miss her and be thankful that I kept him. Ricky is co-owned with my good friend, Kerry Newcomb, and is a beloved companion to her and her family.
In limited use, Ricky has consistently produced important qualities in the few litters he has sired. He is improving eye shape and color, ear set and tip, correct coat texture, bone, muzzle, finish of underjaw, and is passing along his easy going temperament. Ricky currently has sired one champion and has several other major pointed and pointed kids and grandkids on the way to their championships. We are especially fond of our own Rosalita, who is sired by Ricky out of our Sultry.
Sandra MacIntosh Feret of Heatherland Shelties has been a big fan of Ricky's and has had much success using him. Check out her Web page to see some of her lovely Ricky kids and grandkids (One was a class winner at ASSA 2005, and one was a second place winner at ASSA 2003!) including the very handsome double Ricky puppy, Heatherland's Analyze this.
Ricky is OFA Good, VwD clear (vetgen), and has full and correct dentition. He is available to approved bitches.
